What Is Your Money Personality?
Take the Retirement Personality Profiler by going to the Savings Council's Web site, www.asec.org and clicking on Savings Tools. The following money personalities are presented (used by permission of American Savings Council Website):
Planners (23% of Americans) are careful savers and enjoy financial planning. They are willing to take some calculated financial risks to pursue better returns. They believe that a secure future and comfortable retirement is attainable if they plan and save.
Savers (19%) are extremely careful with their money and seldom see their finances upset by unexpected events. But they are hesitant to take any risks, which make them more savers than investors. In the long run, this can substantially affect their returns and they may not be able to accumulate as large of nest egg.
Strugglers (18%) are not impulsive but have many setbacks in their finances. While they may consider themselves disciplined savers, they frequently have unexpected events that send them off course. Low-income Americans are often in this group.
Impulsives (24%) believe that it is possible to have a comfortable retirement, and are willing to take financial risks. But they are not disciplined in saving and tend towards impulsive buying with frequent setbacks to their goals. Impulsives tend not to follow through with their plans and goals.
Deniers (15%) dislike financial planning and do little planning for the future, even immediate events. They either feel that retirement is too far in the future, or they will never be comfortable anyway, so why deny what they want now.
Planners and savers are more likely than the other types to save large amounts for retirement and to plan carefully for other financial events such as buying a house, college educations, etc. What type are you?
